“It's really easy to get colors right. It's really hard to get black - and neutrals - right, ... Black is certainly a color but it's also an illusion.”
Try wearing at least one of the following: earrings, bracelets, necklaces or belts and scarfs. Metallic jewelry is always the best to wear as it looks stylish and fits in with every look,
Wear bright accessories near the face as it can bring up the full outfit.
When wearing a LBD, match the outfit with heels and a smart handbag. (clutch bag which has some metallic print on the bag or white prints).
Wear bright or natural makeup when wearing black.
Wear tight fitted black tops with killer heels or smart flat shoes.
Wear full black skirts like ballerina skirts with netted pantyhose and heavy industrial black boots and a t-shirt. Also try wearing lots of metal bracelets and put hair in pigtails.
Straighten your hair (if it's black) and run vaseline through it. It will give it a greasy look but still look sophisticated.
Wearing black close to the face can be draining and ageing, particularly if you are pale or slightly older. Soften the look with metallics or grey tones to lift your face.
Step 2:
Brighten it up
Combining black with a bright colour can lift the look, as long as you balance the colour throughout the outfit- If you wear a colourful top, pick up that colour in the shoes and accessories.
Step 3:
Black Lace
Wearing black lace is an effective way of making an area of the body look smaller than it actually is. If you are fuller figured in the bust or hips, black lace will break up the expanse by drawing lines through the body.
Step 4:
Gothic
The gothic style is characterised by maxi length dresses and skirts, and high necks to elongate the body. Avoid high necks if you have a large bust as they will make your bust look larger.
Step 5:
Little Black Dress
The LBDs for Autumn / Winter are mini and strapless or knee length and one shouldered. Whichever style you go for, always complete the outfit with diamonds or diamante jewellery.
